Day 1 in Marianna

Yesterday was our first day to serve the North Florida community.  Our first assignment was to reroof a home for a family who lost almost everything in the hurricane.  It was a pleasure to get to serve them and it was amazing how strong they were despite what they had been through.

The heat was intense at a real feel of 109 degrees (not including the extra heat on top of the roof or the extra heat from the tin we were putting down).  But- the team worked like a dream.  Everyone hydrated and rotated taking breaks as the afternoon went on.  We got part way finished and a huge rainstorm came in which was really unfortunate but we got the roof tarped and headed back home.  We are headed back to it today and really need to finish before the next rain.

"We had incredible team work all day from laying down planks to actually installing the roof but especially when the storm rolled in and things got rushed to get cleaned up in a hurry."- Brett

"It was really fun to use all the tools.  We had learned about them but it was fun to get to apply that and use them." - Elisa

"I really liked learning about the different tools. I always thought I would like to work with tools but never had much opportunity." -Jennifer

"After a long hard days work we were graciously awarded with the delectable sensations of smoked pork, potatoes, garlic bread, carrots, broccoli and ice cream and brownies! Thanks Melvins! YYyyyyyEeeeeeeSssss! " -Brett

"It was AWESOME!"- Jessica

"It was also cool to see all our progress."- Elisa

"Sweating and being in that kind of heat never felt so amazing!"- Jessica

"A great time to see how working together as a large group and still getting a lot done."- Parker
