More time in Marianna/N. Florida

Image
We were able to go back on Sunday and mostly finish the roof and then we went back yesterday and added the last pieces of tin and screws to the roof.  FINISHED! We also had the opportunity to go help re-tarp a roof for a sweet family.  They were so very kind, gracious and thankful.  Some of us visited with them while the others fixed the roof.  To hear the horror that they went through during the storm and to hear the damage that their house and property sustained was devastating.  After we were done fixing the roof we praised the Lord together with them in song and prayed with them.  It was incredible. There was rain in the area but they were out a ways and they said they didn't see any signs of rain.  While driving out to them we drove through a huge rain storm- I mean so dark and the rain was so heavy that our windshield wipers were on high and we still could barely see. About 3 minutes from their house it cleared.  As we drove in what was now sunshine (what we attributed t

Day 1 in Marianna

Yesterday was our first day to serve the North Florida community.  Our first assignment was to reroof a home for a family who lost almost everything in the hurricane.  It was a pleasure to get to serve them and it was amazing how strong they were despite what they had been through. The heat was intense at a real feel of 109 degrees (not including the extra heat on top of the roof or the extra heat from the tin we were putting down).  But- the team worked like a dream.  Everyone hydrated and rotated taking breaks as the afternoon went on.  We got part way finished and a huge rainstorm came in which was really unfortunate but we got the roof tarped and headed back home.  We are headed back to it today and really need to finish before the next rain. "We had incredible team work all day from laying down planks to actually installing the roof but especially when the storm rolled in and things got rushed to get cleaned up in a hurry."- Brett "It was really fun to use all

Bold Acts Begins!

Here we go!  What an incredible adventure we are on! Bold Acts is off to a great start!  What a great group of students we have here. We are so excited!  Topics this week so far have included- Budgeting, tool knowledge, and basic home repair and of course Bible Study. At the beginning of the week we heard from one of the pastors at our church (Orlando Grace) on budgeting. It was very helpful and informative. The students got right to work on budgeting for this event.  Curtis and I gave them a certain amount of money and made them responsible for the food, gas, supplies, housing and activity budget. They divided it up and have been working really well as a team throughout this process.  It has certainly been eye opening as they have been figuring out how much to allot for each person for each meal as well as for each category.  We have heard comments like: "Wow. I really appreciate the food more now that I've had to figure out how much it costs, and had to bu
